Floor Scrubber Battery Charging

Floor Scrubbers should be plugged in at all times when not in use. Floor Scrubbers that are not plugged in can self- discharge over time and kill your battery pack. Batteries should be charged after each use - no matter how short of a time. When plugging the charger into the floor scrubber make sure you verify that the ammeter needle moves to the right of the meter window, if there is one on the charger. This confirms there is power to the floor scrubber and the charger is working. Allow the charger to complete the charge process by letting the charging system turn off on its own. Short charging will promote unbalanced batteries and costly battery replacement. Lead acid batteries do not develop a memory and do not need to be fully discharged before recharging. Check water level monthly for every battery and every cell. Note that the cells within a battery are totally separate cavities, so filling one cell does not fill the adjacent cells.

USE DISTILLED WATER ONLY. DO NOT USE TAP WATER.

Watering should be performed after fully charging the battery.

Poor periodic maintenance can contribute to battery discharge. Poor battery cable contact due to improper torque can create reduced run times. Battery cables should be torqued to 110 inch pounds. This should be checked periodically. Corroded terminals will lead to improper connections. Use battery corrosion spray periodically or use baking soda/water mix to clean corrosion from terminals.

How to Maintain Floor Scrubber Batteries

Maintain water levels in each cell of each battery to ¼ of an inch above the cell battery plates with distilled water. Do not allow the plates to be exposed to air.

Charge your floor scrubber batteries often and after every use. If your floor scrubber sits for more than 10 days, charge your batteries again. If it has been plugged into a charger for 10 days, unplug the charger from the floor scrubber and reconnect the charger for another full cycle.

Do not let your batteries run to empty so the machine will operate. This may kill the batteries over time and cause damage to them.

Inspect batteries monthly for loose cables, connections or corrosion. Tighten and clean as necessary.

Do not let your floor scrubber sit around for long periods of time without charging. This may cause sulfating of the battery which causes permanent damage.

My Floor Scrubber Charger Will Not Turn On and Charge

The most frequent question we get concerning problems automatic floor scrubbers is a suspected bad battery charger. If you haven’t used your floor scrubber in a long time, the batteries are dead and the charger doesn’t charge the batteries – most of the time it is the batteries.

If your batteries have not been used or charged in a while and are fully discharged, the charger will not detect the voltage and will not be able to charge.

If you use a voltage meter and they are reading low voltage then your batteries are probably still good but don’t have enough juice to turn on the charger.

How to fix this?

The easiest way to get your batteries to start charging again is to charge each one individually for a short period with a standard automotive-type battery charger. But first, check the water levels in each cell, make sure the plates inside are covered.

If your charger is the typical 12-volt automotive charger, disconnect the batteries from each other and charge each one individually for about 25 minutes.

If your floor scrubber uses 6-volt batteries, charge two batteries at a time rather than individually.

If you try and revive 8-volt batteries remember that you are pumping 12-volts into an 8-volt container which you shouldn’t do for more than 15 minutes max. Keep a close eye on the batteries when do this and do not leave them unattended. Once the batteries have absorbed a small charge you will be able to then connect them to you floor scrubber charger. This unit should then be able to take over the charge cycle.

Blem batteries or Blemish batteries are sold by battery manufacturers to mostly all of their large dealers and carry the same warranty as New (non-blemish battery) at a lower cost.

Make sure vac motor is running, if not you could have a bad vac motor

Make sure hose is attached to squeegee assembly and tight

Make sure hose is attached to recovery tank and tight

Make sure squeegee is not dirty and clean it

Ensure squeegee and squeegee blades are level and tight and haven’t been bent out of place.

Inspect hose and make sure it is not clogged with debris by flushing the hose

Clean the recovery tank and flush with hose

Test the water level float in the recovery tank and make sure it functions properly

Ensure the tank lid is installed in the correct position, tight and the gasket is not worn, ripped or missing.
